Weekly Challenge #190 (Art, Music, & Pink)

Hey again! I'm back for another week of Laura Harm's diva challenge! Here's what I came up with:
I must have had a premonition about this week's challenge because last week I incorporated pink too!:
I am happy to support the Breast Cancer awareness and am lucky to have met several survivors. I thought of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn and their quotes that advocate femininity and strength in women and thought it should feature on my tile this week. May all the amazing women who have fought the battle of Breast Cancer continue to stay strong and keep winning. If you're interested in supporting this cause, check out .❤️
I don't have much to update this week in terms of my life, other than giving you my I'm-stressed-out-and-unamused-face:
...therefore I thought I'd include a music video for zenspiration!
This is an oldie-but-goodie and always inspires me to go a little bit harder or work a little bit longer.
I hope all of you are doing well and have a wonderful week! Thanks for reading ✌️

Weekly Challenge #189 (Hello Again, Friends!)

Well! It's been ages! I haven't been posting recently because 7 weeks ago I began training at the Washington state police academy. While this has been a totally amazing, exhausting, exhilarating, overwhelming, enlightening, challenging, and engrossing experience, it has left little time for art-making (yes, I'm making excuses).
So I've unearthed my dusty, cobweb-covered art tools and returned to the diva challenge:
I really enjoyed trying out this new tangle from Tina-Akua Hunziker. The tangle, "Yuma," is fun and whimsical, so I added a color pop with a highlighter for a retro flare! This tangle has so many potential variations and is a great pattern to practice shading.
I hope all of you are doing well and I thank you for taking the time to get updated on my life. In the last 7 weeks I've:
Learned how to shoot a firearm
Said goodbye to some of my artwork for a year- will be showing at the PLU gallery until 2015
Spent some quality time with my boys Lucas, Mojito, and Finnegan
More pics of my little family- we're cute and we know it ;)
Rocked this sweet uniform day in and day out! Reppin' it
Tangled in my academy journal- because if they didn't think I was eccentric before, I had to prove it ha!
I hope all of you have a splendid week! Peace

Weekly Challenge #182 (Be You)

Oh hey everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful week :)
This week's challenge, brought to us by the talented Laura Harms, is about stripes:
This week I used the tangles: Emingle, Knightsbridge, Indy-rella, Betweed, Swarm, Festune, & Punzel.
I thought this week's challenge would be a perfect occasion to use some of the tangles I rarely practice, as well as learn names of tangles (I admittedly have a hard time remembering).  I enjoyed adding the Bijou tile to my regular tile, and the petite canvas inspired me to give a positive message! So with that, remember to always BE YOU! :)
As for my daily life, I have had a lot of BIG things happening lately:
I passed my final Physical Ability Test before starting the police academy!
I started to get my awesome new swag- it's feeling real....
And my darling Mojito turned two on Satruday! I'm getting old! tee hee
I hope all of you have a wonderful week and take time for yourself.  Build up your self-confidence and treasure yourself!

Weekly Challenge #181 (Happiness & H2O)

It's been another lovely week in the Pacific Northwest, and there's much to be happy about! This week's diva challenge declared water as the inspiration:
Sometimes it's nice to break down life into its essentials- water, food, human interactions- and this week reminded me of how wonderful water can be. Thus, my tile was inspired by a quote from Loren Eiseley about magic and water. My tile focused primarily on the quote and I chose simple patterns/borders to accent, rather than bold and detailed like I normally prefer. It was pleasant to use a blue highlighter this week for color pops! A little color goes a long way :)
As for other life essentials, like human interaction and companionship, I've had a very fulfilling week:
I got pedicures with some lovely ladies that I rarely get to see
And I went on a date with my main stud to a cute little restaurant by the waterfront.
Have a wonderful week and enjoy the little things!

Weekly Challenge #180 (Summer+Plaid=Awesome)

Hello and how-do-you-do? This week's diva challenge is a UMT (use my tangle) called "MacDee":
We all experience plaid on a regular basis, ESPECIALLY if you live in the Pacific Northwest, so it was especially fun to play around with this plaid-looking tangle! It had several variations to it, so I decided to play with sepia pens, white pens, and sharpies. I don't know if I LOVE the overall look of my first attempt, but I would certainly use this tangle in the future! MacDee would be SO fun with gel pens or black tiles :)
Last time I posted, I was on my final leg of vacation so here's a little look at some of my end-of-summer activities:
I visited painted cows in Wyoming
I visited 8 new CrossFit gyms in different states
I supported some of my STUD MUFFIN friends at a CrossFit competition in WA
I am accepting the fact that my hair is now too curly to straighten *tragic sigh* ;)
And I have been enjoying the sunny days of Washington at the dog park with my boys
That sums up my summer fun! Now we prepare for fall! Have a nice week everyone ✌️

Weekly Challenge #178 (Travel & Tangle)

Hello and welcome to this week's blog, brought to you by me- Kailey McEvilly! In fact, this week's challenge from is inspired by my initials: KM.
The challenge was to use two tangles or create a "duotangle" from patterns starting with your initials. Because of this, I chose one of my favorite tangles, "Munchin" for the M and a new tangle (to me) that appears to be a variation of Munchin- "Knot Rickz"- for the K. I love that they fit together almost seamlessly, and I tried to break up all the lines with hatching and sepia tones.
I also had fun tangling with my lovely cousins and mom while on a family road trip to the Midwest. We stayed in Omaha, NE briefly with family and were able to create with some aspiring tanglers! Here's a product of the afternoon fun:
Here's more recap of my vacation adventures:
My family at a much-loved Mexican restaraunt, crowding around a matador-funeral painting
Adventureland baby! And it was HOT
Me, my brother and his girlfriend, Alex, visiting one of the many CrossFit boxes- everyone is SO nice :)
The tangling afternoon with cousin, Piper- she is extremely talented and you will be seeing more of her!

Happy tangling!!!!

Weekly Challenge #177 (Vacation sensation)

Well hello! I know I said I was going to finish my blog last week but I ended up just posting the art because...I'm on a ROAD TRIP! whoop whoop!
This week we have a fun new tangle to try from CZT Caroline Broady of Tennessee:
I actually remember this tangle because I was in the CZT 11 class with Caroline! Now, my tangleation here came out a little whacky because my initial curve ended up having loops and such. It also ended up a little strange since I decided to tackle the challenge in the CAR! Have to so something on the way to Nebraska ha ;)
As I said, my whole fam damily is on vacation to the Midwest and are trekking from Missouri to Nebraska now. Here are some of the exciting action shots from the vacation thus far:
Have a killer week! Enjoy your loved ones ❤️

Weekly Challenge #176 (Life Blood)

Brought to us by the diva challenge, this week focused on using a beverage to accent our tangles!
Here's the coffee-only tile:

Weekly Challenge #175 (Fireworks & Freestylin')

Yo yo yo! Hope all of you had a FANTABULOUS 4TH! This week's diva challenge featured an extra exciting new tangle to try from Henrike Bratz
I don't normally do the "diamond-style" tile, but I thought this new tangle- "Crux"- deserved something unique. Granted, my picture came out a little yellow (its actually on a Renaissance tile), but I like the oriental, textile flair of the finished product.  Henrike Bratz did a really nice job of listing all kinds of unique variations to this tangle so be sure to give it a try! Though it resembles several other patterns in the tangle arsenal, I believe this one easily stands alone.
Ok, so I found this awesome project in which you are sent a sketchbook and once you are done you send your completed book back to the company and they basically make a LIBRARY OF SKETCHBOOKS. I know...too cool...
Here's my first page (above=with shading, below=without shading yet)
I actually pasted some tiles into the book and voila! Texture!
For all you Zentangle/doodle/drawing/whatever fans, this is an awesome way to share your art! Get started at or check out what others have done at!
As I said, I hope everyone had a truly festive Fourth of July! I had a great beginning to July, in which I was able to spend quality time with my favorite human/non-human boys! RECAP:
Fourth selfie- on the way to a social gathering with Luke :)
Finnegan's ears stood up this week! He now looks like a little elven fox-coyote <3 And beware the slumbering Mo. Or shall we call him the little polar pup.
Finally, an excellent 4th workout with the gang at Imperial CrossFit! (I'm the sneaky one in the shadows to the right- working on my ninja skills)
Thanks for reading and (pretending) caring!!! ;P

Weekly Challenge #174 (Have FUN)

Hello fancy people! I hope all of you have enjoyed a beautiful summer weekend and are ready for a GREAT week! This week's challenge focused on multiple "strings" for our tangle creations:
I definitely have a tendency to focus on organic monotangles, so this week I broke it down into more structured, grid-like tangles. I decided to use some of the classics like "Crescent Moon" and "Knightsbridge." This week challenged how I traditionally approach my diva challenges but I am happy with the outcome :)
Also...I had a really FUN (stressful, but fun) weekend!
I drove to Portland with my two pups to attend a CrossFit Level 1 course to become a CrossFit trainer. I don't know if/when I'll coach, but I have so much fun meeting new people and I really enjoyed seeing all these fitness enthusiasts from all over (p.s. ignore the Honey Buckets lol):
While driving, I heard some excellent, throw-back 80's songs which reminded me to: HAVE A FUN WEEK!
Ha, oh these songs....
I hope all of you remember to take some time for yourself or your family or both for this celebratory weekend! Don't forget to be goofy with all those you care about :)

Weekly Challenge #172 (A little here, a little there)

HELLO world! I have missed blogging this last month and am ready to be back in action! As always I am inspired by the iamthediva challenge each week:
This week's "Auraknot vs Mooka" duotangle challenge is a fun combo of two complex tangles. Mooka is known as a difficult tangle to master and I am still working on it myself. I am happy with this combo overall and felt like the patterns left a lot of room for creative shading and embellishing!
As for being MIA the last month, this is what's been happening:
1. GRADUATED COLLEGE. Yup. It happened. Feeling studly in that cap'n'gown
2. Visited Canada! And boy was it B-E-A-Utiful! Loved the Butchart Gardens in Victoria!
3. GOT A JOB. Woot woot. I am going to be a Seattle PD officer and will be entering the police academy this August! It's been a turbulent process but I was picked up by my No. 1 choice!!!!
4. Saw my brother graduate high school! Flew back to Vegas and celebrated another graduation. So proud *sniffle*
5. Rascalling around with these kiddos:
They are a handful but little Finnegan is a great family addition and pal for Mo.
6. Enjoying summertime. It feels like forever since I've been able to not stress about school but now I get to hangout with my boys and unpack my apartment with Luke :) recipe for a great summer right there.
